Earlier this week Loni Anderson, of TV sitcom “WKRP in Cincinnati” fame got married to singer Bob Flick. All of us here at Where’s America want to wish the happy couple all the best and send our warmest blog wishes for many years of joyful bliss. Why, you might ask, the sudden interest in former 1970’s sitcom stars and their nuptial news…?? Well, if you have ever seen the show WKRP and enjoyed the soothing 70’s melodious bass tones in the opening credits theme song…you are not alone!! Those funky bass lines are performed by none other than my Dad….!!! Yes, that’s right….its all in the family baby! And, right on cue, here is the clip that still makes your toes tap and soul shimmy…

Did you know that tonight, 6 p.m. Eastern U.S. daylight savings time, NASA will be placing the Phoenix Lander on the surface of Mars? Yes, its true! In their continuing efforts to study the surface of our reddish celestial neighbor, NASA is sending the Phoenix Lander to the Martian arctic to study frozen subsurface water discovered by the Mars Odyssey Orbiter in 2002. AND…You can watch the landing LIVE on NASA TV. Now, to be honest, recently I have been a bit obsessed with YouTube clips about how the Apollo Moon Landings may have been faked….I wont get into to that on this blog, but lets just say that there are some pretty compelling documentaries (not just the homemade conspiracy crazies who rant and rave…although there are plenty of those too!). So, whether you are a skeptic, a true believer, or just a casual space aficionado, it sure isn’t everyday that one gets to watch a Mars landing live, right from the comfort of your very own computer screen. What does the Martian arctic look like….?? Tune in tonight and see for yourself!

Summer is just around the corner and that means soon I will not have to stay up until all hours of the night watching baseball games on my laptop…. Soon I will be able to GO SEE baseball games!!! This summer should be a good one baseball-wise…
So far I have tickets to go see an Oakland A’s game with Lisa, plans to see an Atlanta Braves game at home, a Rockies game in Denver, schemes to see a few minor league games including the infamous Humboldt Crabs, and a new secret plan to see a game at a stadium I have never been to (or ever really seriously thought I would go to).
So to celebrate the coming of summer and America’s pastime, here is a new Top Ten list of baseball stadiums I would really like to go see a game at sometime. Enjoy and pass the peanuts!

Magically Addicted

For some unknown reason I downloaded the 70’s hit “Magic” by the the band Pilot earlier this week off of iTunes….Since then I CANT STOP listening to it on my iPod. Why this silly song has taken hold of me I dont know, but it sure is catchy!! So, to get your weekend started off right, here it is in all its 70’s glory!!!

Curse of the Chute

Long time readers of Where’s America may remember that back in October I wrote a post about the trash chute drama of my apartment building in Gothenburg. Well dear friends, it has happened AGAIN!! I moved to Stockholm and sure enough, the curse that is the loss of one’s trash chute has struck again. How is this possible??? Did I do something wrong in a past life…is there some trash chute god or goddess I must appease…are all Swedish trash chutes flawed and doomed to inevitable closure??? Irregardless, I now find myself having to carry around my garbage, looking for some public trash can to cast away my rubbish while pretending it is totally normal to walk around with a garbage bag through the streets of Stockholm. If “they” had only known it would end up like this, I might not have ever been allowed to become a Swede! Of course, supposedly my key should open the trash room….yes, yes, I have heard it all before…this is just some trick played on the innocent and unsuspecting….the key never works. So, if you see a rather tall man bearing garbage next time you are in Sweden, just point me in the direction of the closest trash can if you please!

If you have not run across the video clips of this guy playing vegetables he has fashioned into musical instruments…well, you are in for a treat! I thought about making a whole Top Ten list of his videos (since it is high time for a new Top Ten list), but if you have seen one big broccoli ocarina and carrot pan flute, you have seen them all. So, here for your amusement are three of the best of this guy’s vegetable offerings…

Baseball!!!

Anyone who reads this blog regularly knows that I am a lifelong baseball fan. Perhaps it is the weather, the fact that summer is just around the corner, late night games on MLB.com (or a combination of all of the above), but my baseball juices are flowing. I have already started looking into tickets for various games around the country this summer, my fantasy baseball team (the Gothenburgers) is in first place, and not a day goes by that I don’t watch at least an inning or two live on my computer late at night before going to bed. BASEBALL!!!!! If there is one classic baseball song, it has got to be John Fogerty’s “Centerfield”…that song IS baseball. So, if you have not already, get yourself down to your local field and see a game this week…come on, you know you want to!!!
